Three Important Health Screenings Every Woman Should Have

It’s certainly no secret that there are many different types of health screenings that are designed to keep both men and women of all ages as healthy as possible. However, when it comes to women, there are specific screenings that are more important than others, as these can literally save your life.
Here are three of the most important health screenings that every woman should have.
*Perhaps one of the most important health screenings that every woman should always have is a mammogram. This is a screening that compresses the breasts between plates and takes x-ray images, and it’s also a screening that is designed to detect breast cancer. In terms of exactly when women should begin having mammograms, this is something that has long been the subject of discussion; however, recent guidelines recommend that women should undergo mammograms every two years beginning at the age of 50. However, according to the American Cancer Society, these screenings should be done annually beginning at the age of 45, with biannual mammograms occurring at the age of 55.
*Another important health screening for women is a Pap smear. This is a screening that is done beginning at the age of 21 and ending at the age of 65 in which a doctor uses a speculum to widen the vagina. A small brush is then used to take cells from the cervix, and those cells are then examined for any changes that may result in cervical cancer.
*Blood pressure screening is another important test that women should always undergo. According to the American Heart Association, if your blood pressure is below 120/80, it should be checked approximately once every two years beginning at the age of 20. Annual screenings are recommended for African Americans, obese individuals, and adults aged 40 and older.
