Drinking the right amount of water every day is important for your health. Water is key when it comes to your digestion, circulation, vitamin, and nutrient absorption. Water also helps to rid your body of toxins. If you suffer from dry skin, it might be a sign that you are not taking in enough water and have become dehydrated.
So, how does drinking water help combat dry skin? If you ensure that you are drinking enough water every day, it can have a positive impact on the health of your skin. There is little scientific evidence to support the claim that water intake is related to skin health, but the research that has been conducted has not proven a link either way. That said, for years people have been told to drink at least eight eight-ounce glasses of water every day to stay hydrated, and countless people attribute their healthy skin to their dietary water intake. Because of this, many researchers and medical professionals believe there could be a relationship between water intake and healthy skin. In fact, a small study on the matter that was published in Clinical, Cosmetic and Investigational Dermatology in 2015 showed a possible relationship between hydration and skin health. Researchers found that an increase in dietary water consumption had a positive effect on the appearance of the skin of those participants who began the study dehydrated due to low daily water consumption; they also found that greater water consumption helped the participants maintain that skin hydration. (The study also noted that people with a balanced level of hydration may not experience the same effect, and an increase in their hydration did not necessarily have any greater positive impact.)
Even though scientific evidence for the positive impact of hydration on one’s skin is lacking, it is still a widely accepted idea that drinking water is important to combating dry skin. If you find it difficult to drink an adequate amount of water, you are not alone. Many people struggle to get enough water in their diet. The hard part is often just remembering to drink water at all. It is more important than ever to remember to drink water before, during, and after spending time outdoors, especially when it is hot and when you are physically active.
It is important to drink plenty of water to stay healthy in general. And it can’t hurt when it comes to fending off dryness in your skin. You can’t go wrong with drinking water to keep your body hydrated and your skin in top condition, too.
